A glimpse into my life. I am an elementary school teacher. Today the kids were working in partners on an activity, and all of sudden, mayhem, because there was a HUGE spider crawling on the floor. The kids started freaking out, some because they were scared, some because its really fun to be dramatic and freak out in a quiet classroom. So, back to the spider, I am not particulary afraid of spiders, but this sucker was very large. It would have been really gross to kill it, plus that just didn't seem right, since we've been discussing the food chain and each animal's niche in its ecosystem, so I knew I had to somehow get the spider out of my classroom without killing it. Don't forget the freaking out children, so I thought quick on my feet! I quickly emptied a coffee mug full of pencils and grabbed a piece of cardboard that had been torn off a spiral notebook. Without so much as hesitating, I let that disgusting spider crawl into the mug, covered it with the cardboard and let it go outside. Can you picture it? I think I deserve some sort of medal for my heroic feat. Now, if it had be a mouse (I'm petrified of them), I don't think I would have reacted so bravely. We would have quickly evacuated the classroom!
I would have shared my lunch with a mouse before going near a spider. I'm paralyzed by them. But, I admire your bravery and sensitivity towards the children!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed! I would have been screaching along with the kids!
